and then it’s his turn. It’s tradition in Dan’s family to be thrown in the lake during celebration moments. Also tradition to put up a serious fight. Nothing like cousin pink to comfort a soaking soul.

through this new iPhone I’m using these days. It is so much fun to carry around a high-quality point-and-shoot that can also make calls, play scrabble, and sing songs. The joy! This is a walk through Edmonds, Washington and then some Kingston on the other side of Puget Sound.

greece

what more can you say? I guess I can say more: 11 days for Athens and the islands Mykonos, Santorini and Milos. It was amazing. The trip was amazing. Gyros, moussaka, souvlaki, cats like rats around the city, ancient ruins next to your dinner table, trekking from amazing view to the next, walking through Santorini’s vertical city on the edge of a volcano crater, sunrises and sunsets on different islands, cards and dice and milkshakes and people watching. Beach crawling, ferry-riding, shopping through ancient Athens’ winding streets, heading up hill to visit the towering acropolis and the great new museum (a must-visit - their cold chocolates are worth the ticket price). We loved it. Go to Greece.

my friend Maya brought the girls in her family together for a mother’s day gift of true photos. What a beautiful gift idea! Love it, and love the time running around for an hour with this cute family.

Hello Al. And other guy with awesome glasses. Shot with Al’s ancient Nikon 35mm. It’s been a long time since film has really been wound under my shutter fingers.

a little bit of summit in new york city

Posted in event, location on May 5th, 2010 by Julie Furbush – 6 Comments

Work sent me to new york city a couple weeks ago for another spiritual activist summit. The weekend was a great one; particularly for the amazing conversations and the central park time in between. This time of year: beautiful nyc.

in indianapolis with college summit

Posted in event, portraits on April 8th, 2010 by Julie Furbush – 7 Comments

This last summer I posted some photos I took while volunteering as a writing coach with College Summit, a non-profit organization that helps low-income kids get to college. In that post, you saw a few of the students with whom I worked closely over the course of four days to write heartfelt personal essays. College Summit flew me to Indianapolis a few weeks ago to capture more of the same spirit. In this post, you’ll see many more students - all headed toward college - in two high schools in Indianapolis. The day was a great one, and College Summit still rocks everybody’s socks off. Volunteering during their summer workshops is an incredible experience; you’ve got to do it at least once in your life!
